The center armrest also includes an integrated storage compartment with two cup holders and additional storage units are available from Original BMW Accessories.
Concierge Services with Critical Calling
Wherever you travel, friendly Concierge Services representatives assist you with local restaurant and hotel recommendations, movie times and ticket information, flight arrival and departure gates and times, fuel prices and availability, and much more. You can also get the "Points of Interest" (POI) download, which allows the representative to send addresses and phone numbers to your vehicle. This information can then be transferred to your BMW Navigation system for route guidance, or for calling from your Bluetooth linked mobile phone.
Comfort Access with Hands Free Trunk Opening
Innovative and easy to operate, the Comfort Access system makes it possible to open both the vehicle doors and trunk and start the engine without having to use the car key. The key, even when not in your hand, is automatically recognized upon approaching the car. Once the door has been automatically unlocked, the driver can get in and start the engine by pressing the Start/Stop button. The driver's foot must be on the brake or, with manual transmission, must also depress the clutch in order to start. Furthermore, the trunk can be opened for easy access by lifting a foot under the rear bumper.
3-Spoke Leather-Wrapped Multi-Function Sport Steering Wheel
Ultimate control lies at your fingertips with the 3-spoke leather-wrapped multi-function sport steering wheel. It readily adjusts audio, cruise control and Bluetooth® wireless communication for hands-free mobile phone - so you can focus on what you love most: the drive.
Harman Kardon® Surround Sound System
It's a sound experience as remarkable as the BMW driving experience. Unlike traditional stereo systems, the optional Harman Kardon®Surround Sound System uses vehicle-specific equalizing, and a powerful 600W amplifier, to deliver powerful, high-current, ultrawide-bandwidth. The result: a scintillating audio performance that pumps the highest definition soundtrack to the open road. The 16-speaker system also includes six tweeters, four mid-range speakers, two bass speakers located under the front seats, one mid-range speaker and one tweeter in the instrument panel.
iDrive 4.2: Now with Touchpad Controller
The new iDrive 4.2 navigation system showcases an optimized menu display with state-of-the-art technologies, like advanced real-time traffic data. And, a new iDrive rotary controller with an integrated touchpad makes it easy for drivers on the go to enter destinations, phone numbers and more.
Bang & Olufsen High-End Surround Sound System
Experience listening pleasure equal to that of the world's best concert halls with the optional Bang & Olufsen high-quality Surround Sound system. Thanks to innovative technologies, like 16 active speakers, 1,200 watts and an acoustic lens in the center speaker - which opens when the sound system is activated - every passenger is given an exclusive box seat. Precisely orchestrated trebles, mid-tones and bass notes treat the most discerning music enthusiasts to the acoustic fidelity and quality of a real concert hall. For example, try "Studio" mode for crystal-clear sound or the "Expanded" mode for incomparable surround sound.

Performance & Efficiency
2.0-Liter, TwinPower Turbo Inline 4-Cylinder Engine, 240 hp
Small is the next big idea in engines - namely, BMW's mighty inline 4-cylinder TwinPower Turbo. Displacing just 2.0 liters, this 240-hp marvel generates 260 lb-ft of torque at just 1250 rpm, for potent thrust that kicks in right from the start and continues all the way up to 4800 rpm. Lightweight and smooth-running, it incorporates BMW's award-winning High Precision Direct Injection, Valvetronic and Double VANOS technologies. And its dynamic performance is equaled by spectacular fuel efficiency, which is estimated to take you 20 percent further on every gallon of gas than did its 6-cylinder predecessor.
8-Speed Sport Automatic Transmission with Paddle Shifters
Provides extremely fast synchronized shifting. By increasing the number of gears to eight, the transmission provides a more efficient shifting sequence and improved fuel economy. Includes Adaptive Transmission Control (ATC) with Sport and Manual shift modes and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. When in Sport mode, shifts can be generated via the console-mounted shift lever or the paddle shifters. The close spacing of the gear ratios of the optional 8-speed sport automatic transmission enables maximum use of the optimum rev range, significantly lowering fuel consumption and enhancing shift comfort.
Driving Dynamics Control
Maintain the highest level of comfort, agility and efficiency in all road conditions with innovative drive train and chassis technologies and optimized driving modes, now including ECO PRO.
With Driving Dynamics Control, you determine which personality of the BMW 5 Series shines through with the push of a button. We've enhanced each mode so that SPORT driving mode feels more athletic, SPORT+ guarantees maximum performance, and COMFORT+ driving mode gears all of the connected systems - such as Dynamic Damper Control (if equipped) and the transmission - toward ultimate ease of traveling.
And now, the new, fuel-consumption-friendly ECO PRO mode adapts accelerator pedal and gearbox responses while also moderating heating/air-conditioning systems to maximize fuel efficiency. It also takes traffic density, individual driving style and local conditions into account, then offers directions optimized for efficiency and minimal travel time.
Red lights, traffic jams, train crossings-in everyday driving situations there are countless instances where the engine is idling, unnecessarily burning fuel. Auto Start-Stop automatically switches off the engine when the vehicle is stationary and the driver engages the brake. This only happens when energy is not needed for anything else - such as for the air-conditioning system and rear window defroster - and as soon as the driver's foot leaves the brake pedal, the engine starts up again. It's a seamless and comfortable way to save fuel and protect the environment.
Brake Energy Regeneration
To supply a battery with electrical energy, the generator (alternator) is usually driven using engine power, which requires fuel. With Brake Energy Regeneration, the generator produces electricity when the driver brakes or takes a foot off the accelerator. Kinetic energy that was previously unharnessed is transformed into electrical energy, then fed into the battery. In this way, electricity is generated without consuming fuel.
Safety & Security
BMW Assist eCall and TeleServices
In an emergency, BMW Assist eCall, now standard in all BMWs, automatically sends your location and relevant information to police and EMT services, saving critical time when you need it most. Also standard, with BMW TeleServices, your BMW knows exactly when the next servicing appointment is coming up and informs you about any maintenance requirements. Your BMW Service Center will call you to arrange an appointment. Wherever you are, your BMW Service Center is at your side.
Adaptive LED Headlights
Bright LED illumination makes traffic signs and other objects along the road easier to see, helping reduce eye fatigue and increase comfort during long-distance driving.
LED technology is used exclusively for both high and low beams, as well as in all four Corona headlight rings. At speeds of up to 35 mph, LED cornering lights automatically light up the side of the road when turning. At faster speeds, the Adaptive Headlights feature automatically swivels the headlights to illuminate the road around bends, based on your steering wheel movements. LED lights also include the High Beam Assistant feature, which uses a sensor to automatically switch the high-beam headlights on and off depending on the traffic situation.
Active Driving Assistant
Drive more confidently with the camera-based Active Driving Assistant. The BMW 5 Series includes Lane Departure Warning, which alerts you when you drift lanes with a visible signal and steering wheel vibration. Additionally, Pedestrian and Collision Warning detects hazards on a collision course with the vehicle, initiating the braking system to reduce vehicle speed and prevent critical situations before they occur.
Active Blind Spot Detection
Looking forward isn't just a metaphor for our insatiable desire to innovate. It's also quite literal. The available Active Blind Spot Detection system helps eliminate blind spots and actually allows drivers to avoid collisions when changing lanes, literally keeping your gaze straight ahead. Using radar sensors at the rear of the vehicle to monitor the traffic behind it, this system alerts drivers if a vehicle is in their blind spot by displaying a light on their side-view mirror housings. And on the chance the driver does not notice the warning and signals to indicate changing lanes, the light on the mirror housing begins to flash and the steering wheel vibrates.
Full Color Head-Up Display
Full Color Head-Up Display projects key information onto the windshield to appear directly in the driver's field of view to minimize distractions. Responsive to light conditions around them, the projections can be easily adjusted using the iDrive Controller. Depending on the vehicle specification and equipped optional features, the display not only shows current speed, but speed limits, navigation instructions, and various warning messages. And now, with a touch of a button on the steering wheel, you can also scroll through music libraries or change radio stations.
